Twelve SAL athletes travelled to St Ives on Saturday for the first SAL Match of the season. With a depleted team and lots of blanks on the team sheet, the magnificent dozen filled every event possible and scrapped for every place/point. Team manager Rhys Samuels had an epic 519 mile journey (rail strikes) to get to and from St Ives and a last minute dash by time keeper Nick Ward ensured the Club gained full points for Officials. Alan Ephgrave starting an epic three days as lead Field (EYAL Sunday and Vets Monday) with Bob Whitten, Phil and Julie Laws, Alison Barber and Libby Taylor making up the Field Team and Rhona Foster as Track Judge.
Leading the quest for points Dylan Baines did 6 events winning B string 110H and TJ after gashing a leg open with his spikes while high jumping where he finished second clearing 1m70. He was also second in the LJ with 6m21 and was part of the winning 4x100m team 46.6 (with Ed, Jacob and Rhys), and took part in the SP. Jacob Kinchin-Smith U20 did 4 events, second in the 200m 22.3, 400m 51.4 and TJ 11m82. Ed Laws U20 won the 110H 17.3, was second in the 400H and won the B long jump. Rhys competed in the 100m, 200m and SP, Isaac Whitten U20 in the 400m and HJ and Jake Anderson in the 1500m.
Annabel Howells U20 won the 400m 61.2. Libby Taylor won the HT 45m48, was second in the DT 28m05 and third in shot and second in B Javelin. Vet Sandra Reed won the B TJ and competed in the 100m, 200m and DT. U20 Kachi Dike U20 was second in A TJ, having never competed at the event 8m74, third in the A Javelin and won the B 200 and SP. Vet Chris Feely competed in the 400m, 800m and 2k steeple chase and Martina Barber competed in the 100m and LJ.
